Foundation Training Lead
As Foundation Training Lead at Pharmacy Foundations, Katy ensures foundation training content is up to date, accurate and relevant. She develops new content alongside other Pharmacy Foundations staff including our Foundation Focus Live webinars and delivers teaching on our foundation training course.
Katy is a qualified pharmacist whose career began with a training year split between general practice and hospital pharmacy. Her experience as a foundation pharmacist involved rotations across various specialties, including general surgery, orthopaedics, infectious diseases, and more, before embarking into a respiratory specialist role. In her clinical role, she provides clinical pharmacy services to in-patient areas, manages homecare and outpatient clinics, and offers coverage for the cystic fibrosis ward when needed. Katy also serves as a post-graduate diploma workplace tutor, mentoring foundation pharmacists and supporting their professional development.
Katy recently completed her Pharmacist Independent Prescribing qualification at Sheffield Hallam University in 2024, expanding her scope of practice and enhancing her ability to provide direct patient care. She has also completed her MSc in Foundation Pharmacy Practice at the University of Bradford, where she has focused on innovative approaches to improving patient care. Her MSc included a quality improvement project that explored the effective utilisation of pharmacy staff to optimise healthcare delivery.
This combination of advanced education and practical experience reflects her commitment to improving clinical outcomes and advancing the pharmacy profession.
